ARTIFICIAL SELECTION. “One well-known computer program that purports to mimic evolution is the one by Richard Dawkins that creates "biomorphs". The program generates stick figures that resemble insects, trees, bats, spiders, etc. The figures show a certain amount of variety as they evolve. But the evolution is by artificial selection, and nothing like gene duplication occurs. Instead, only nine or sixteen variables (in different versions) are allowed to wander within narrow ranges.” http://www.panspermia.org/computr2.htm View in LinkedIn

ZARATHUSTRA. "Richard Dawkins has written several computer programs which function, he says, like evolution. Dawkins also uses the computer to generate artificial creatures he calls "Biomorphs." The evolution they undergo is analogous to biological evolution, he says." http://www.panspermia.org/computrs.htm View in LinkedIn

SYNTHETIC LIFE. ""Every computer-based self-replicating program system...provides a new instance of evolution." https://lnkd.in/dJG7PFu Macroscopic, spatio-temporal, cooperative structures spontaneously emerge in these self- programming system. They emerge in a similar way as macroscopic dissipative structures do in physico-chemical systems.(1991). https://lnkd.in/dWGaP8C View in LinkedIn

AMBITIOUS GOAL. “Evolutionary robotics is on the rise. Instead of robots being designed by human beings, machines run iterative processes to produce new code for the robot’s controller. A team of international scientists from Germany, The Netherlands, France and the UK are proposing a new framework called The Triangle of Life. Their aim is to bring the development of robots to a point where it truly mimics biological evolution.” https://lnkd.in/dyHuU2m View in LinkedIn

SYNTHETIC EVOLUTION. “We propose an experimental study where simplistic organisms rise from inanimate matter and evolve solely through physical interactions. These organisms are composed of three types of macroscopic building blocks floating in an agitated medium. Our results suggest that an autonomous evolution of non-biological organisms can be realized in human-designed environments and, potentially, in natural environments as well.” https://lnkd.in/dWJXxpX View in LinkedIn
