FUNGIBILITY."Bread is fungible, a human is not. Cut one in half and you still have food, cut the other in half and you go to jail. Right now, computers are not fungible. With programmable matter, they would be. That same cubic meter of a billion catoms is essentially a network of a billion computers. That’s a lot of computational power – more than enough to organize it into different shapes."" " http://lnkd.in/dHbJvdK View in LinkedIn

IS THE FUTURE OF LIFE SCIENCES IT? Is information technology the future for life sciences? As technological innovation in life sciences drives the bioeconomy, as recently highlighted by the White House report, our capacity to innovate will depend in part on our ability to process data. CATOMS. "Programmers have to create a system where catoms can communicate wirelessly over relatively long ranges and with little power. In a single cubic meter, there could be a billion catoms. That means a billion computers trying to talk to each other and move themselves to form a shape. It’s a daunting task but it’s helped by a great concept known as fungibility." (Fungibility to follow). " " http://lnkd.in/dHbJvdK View in LinkedIn

EMERGING INFORMATION CULTURE. "In the future, people will live in a communicative society. We can get what we want from the social net. The information society will process more and more data, and we need efficient instruments to deal with the big data."" " http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Technology View in LinkedIn

READ CAREFULLY. "MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) is actively trying to merge physics and computer science. Neil Gershenfeld, CBA’s director and one of the leaders in computational physics, is seeking to design, build and program computers that are what they compute. He’s taking the “bit” and turning it into an “it,” instead of the other way around." (Important idea). " " http://lnkd.in/dHbJvdK View in LinkedIn

FUTURE SCREEN TECHNOLOGY. "The ubiquitous screen will profoundly change the people, culture and business." This prediction, if correct, is nothing short of enormous. It marks a potential sea-change in how we do almost everything, and may already quietly have happened. " " http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Technology View in LinkedIn

CLAYTONICS. "The idea is simple: make basic computers housed in tiny spheres that can connect to each other and rearrange themselves. It’s the same concept as we saw with Modular Robotics, only on a smaller scale. Each particle, called a Claytronics atom or Catom, is less than a millimeter in diameter. With billions you could make almost any object you wanted." (Any object). " " http://lnkd.in/dHbJvdK View in LinkedIn

WE ARE FLOODED WITH DATA, a phenomenon called information overload (Tofler). Data is just unorganized information. Data, when organized, becomes information. Actionable, not just a heap of ones and zeros. Or piles of observations in any units. Until it is organized into actionable and understandable groupings it is worthless. In recent years have excelled at generating massive amounts of data. Organizing data overload into useful information is the challenge of the next epoch. View in LinkedIn

IS INFORMATION MORE PRIMARY THAN MATTER ITSELF? If information is orderly stored data, and if data is just a unit of anything (1 or 0, ATCG, or practically any unit), then most of the physical universe is orderly stored data; the vast majority of physical things and physical materials have clear structure, and mathematical order. Some materials will be stable (most disordered) and others less stable (more structured). It is possible that only the more unstable ordered materials can be coaxed into releasing energy as work, or are programmable materials. View in LinkedIn
