Professor Stefano Mancuso is perhaps the field’s most impassioned spokesman for the plant point of view. https://lnkd.in/dcnjkZB View in LinkedIn

MICHAEL POLLAN on The Intelligent Plant. “A controversial 2006 article in Trends in Plant Science proposing a new field of inquiry that the authors, perhaps somewhat recklessly, elected to call “plant neurobiology.” https://lnkd.in/dvFaNgd View in LinkedIn

"ANTHONY TREWAVAS FRS FRSE is a Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology of the University of Edinburgh best known for his research in the fields of plant physiology and molecular biology. He obtained both his degree and Ph.D in Biochemistry at University College London before performing post doctoral work at the newly constituted University of East Anglia. He moved to the University of Edinburgh in 1970. In 1972 he was invited to be first Visiting Professor at the prestigious Plant Research laboratory in Michigan State University." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Trewavas View in LinkedIn

DISRUPTIVE IDEA. "The concept of plant intelligence, as proposed by Anthony Trewavas, has raised considerable discussion. The initially promising idea unfortunately appears to have been reduced to a mere metaphor nowadays, having possibly partly fallen victim of the heated exchange concerning the program of “plant neurobiology”." https://lnkd.in/dBZBAD2 View in LinkedIn

MOLECULAR ADAPTATION. "These adaptations are possibly associated to the above mentioned Na+ toxicity which seagrasses have likely experienced during their evolution towards the marine environment. To this respect, molecular adaptation of key cellular processes known to be sensitive towards increased ionic levels such as photosynthesis, translation, and selected metabolic enzymes are expected." http://bmcevolbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2148-11-8 View in LinkedIn

KEY GENES. "Positive selection for 51 genes was detected after the split from terrestrial monocots based on a maximum likelihood approach. In the present analysis, many of the identified PSGs are involved in the central biological pathways of translation, photosynthesis, and glycolysis." VARIED SYSTEMS. “Seagrasses have long been regarded as C3 plants, but physiological measurements have gathered indications that several seagrass species, including Z. marina, are C3-C4 intermediates or have various carbon-concentrating mechanisms to aid the RuBisCO enzyme in carbon acquisition.” http://bmcevolbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2148-11-8 View in LinkedIn
