VOLATILE ORGANICS IN MINNESOTA GROUND WATER. Volatile organic contaminants (VOCs) are things like oil, gasoline, industrial solvents and dyes that find their way into groundwater. 48 VICs have health limits set in Minnesota, out of over 68 known to occur in water. 11.4% of sampled wells in the State contain VOCs. http://lnkd.in/dTtfCnr View in LinkedIn

PURE DRINKING WATER GOALS ARE BACKFIRING, as we learn more about the undesirable reactions of chlorine with groundwater contaminants of many sources, generating a large number of toxic compounds with adverse health effects. SYNTHETIC ORGANIC CHEMICALS (SOCs) "are generally toxic and can have substantial health impacts from both acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) exposure. Many are known carcinogens (cancer causing). THE WATER POLLUTION reports I have selected simply reinforce the issue that the groundwater quality is deteriorating, that some of these chemicals will never go away, and that the brew of chemicals opens the door for numerous reactions with each other and with chlorine used for microbial control in drinking water. THE HYDRAULIC FRACKING INDUSTRY extracts oil and gas from underground reserves by pumping large amounts of undisclosed chemicals into the subterranean sources, and is exempt from the Safe Drinking Water Act.
