WiSee TECHNOLOGY is being developed to read human gestures as commands for routine domestic events, such as turning some device on or off. Perhaps I am a Luddite, but this does not pass the Sniff Test for household use, since I have not ever felt a great unmet need to replace the On-Off button. Did I miss something? Dazzled by technology? I may be more sympathetic if there are other situational applications that are more difficult to perform than turning on the TV. http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/innovations/wp/2013/06/07/hands-down-and-hands-up-this-is-the-coolest-technology-of-the-week/ View in LinkedIn

PLANT STEM CELLS permit regeneration of entire plants frozen in glaciers for 500 years. This rather surprising finding both of pluripotent plant cells and of their capacity for living is challenging to some dogmas about freezing living cells. Cryopreservation generally uses a slow controlled cooling process to avoid ice crystal damage and osmotic damage. Cryoprotectants are a type of anti-freeze and do occur in plant and animal species exploiting cold environments, and are critical for survival. This finding is testimony to their remarkable and prolonged efficacy. http://lnkd.in/7TFV58 View in LinkedIn

THE PILOT PEN from Tokyo is my favorite writing instrument, and popular worldwide. However, on more than one occasion, they have bled during air travel, to my immense distress, inking clothing and skin. I spent months reviewing the topic of reservoir vents, in the hope of finding a solution to this vexing problem. The world of vents turned out to be exquisitely fascinating. In the end by considering surface tension and geometry I devised a solution. Would anybody skilled in micro-fabrication be willing to collaborate on experiments to support a patent, and then seek a deal with Pilot? View in LinkedIn

3D PRINTED FOOD will be the new rage in garnishes and decorations. This outlandish concept was not conceived in the early IP for modern printers. They were obsessed with microprinting devices, the issues of correct vent design in tiny spaces that would not clog or leak. All a far cry from this quantum jump to printing objects. http://lnkd.in/D--kAd View in LinkedIn

BARCELONA'S SUPERCOMPUTER is perhaps the most beautiful in the world. It is located in the luxurious former Girona family estate, in a chapel built for their daughter who aspired to be a nun, next to the large family house and pond. Next door is a palace the family donated to the royal family. Inside the exquisite chapel, Mare Nostrum (Our sea), as it is called, is a humming flickering modern god with spectacular red cables, living in a huge glass case, surrounded by stained glass windows and timeless arches. Of course the entry door is located at the former altar. Is the answer 42? View in LinkedIn
