INCREASED R&D SPENDING BY TOP TEN BIOTECH COMPANIES, may be good news, provided the lesson from Big Pharma is remembered. Big Research can result in big disappointments. Skunk works and SMEs have consistently punched above their weight in performance and been less prone to the Not Invented Here (NIH) syndrome that haunts large research undertakings. Undoubtedly subject matter for future B-School case studies, this is a clear trend.
