BIOFILMS ARE THE NORM. “In 2000, as a case example, nearly 7,000 US municipal drinking water systems affecting 10.5 million inhabitants failed to meet safe water criteria, on account of biofilms in the distribution systems.” These are not rare data at all, and point to a systemic problem facing all large drinking water distribution systems.
