PHOTORECEPTORS. “Rod and cone cells contain a thin ‘connecting cilium’ that bridges the inner and outer segments of the cell. In fact, the light-sensitive portion of the photoreceptors is a modified primary cilium. Photons that arrive at rhodopsin molecules in the outer segment would have first passed through these cilia.”
