LONG DISTANCE SIGNALS. "Cross-kingdom RNAi events demonstrate that gene silencing signals can travel extracellularly over long distances and, in terms of plant–microbe interaction, across plant and pathogen cell walls, membranes, cuticular layers and other cellular boundaries. However, the underlying mechanisms of trafficking of RNAi signals still remain enigmatic." https://lnkd.in/evpzgrd View in LinkedIn

"CROSS-KINGDOM RNAi describes the phenomenon in which a donor organism produces an RNAi trigger that moves into a recipient organism and causes gene silencing. Cross-kingdom RNAi occurs during host plant–pathogen interaction, and can take place in both directions: (i) sRNAs produced by a pathogen to be delivered into host cells to silence host genes; and (ii) a host-produced gene silencing trigger to suppress pathogen gene(s)." PLANT HOMOLOG AND TUMORS. "We found that Western donor sera contained the plant miRNA miR159, whose abundance in the serum was inversely correlated with breast cancer incidence and progression in patients. Oral administration of miR159 mimic significantly suppressed the growth of xenograft breast tumors in mice. These results demonstrate for the first time that a plant miRNA can inhibit cancer growth in mammals." https://lnkd.in/e_qsx9z View in LinkedIn

DIET AND ENVIRONMENT. "The influence of diet and environment on human health has been known since ages. Plant-derived natural bioactive compounds (phytochemicals) have acquired an important role in human diet as potent antioxidants and cancer chemopreventive agents." BREAST MILK. "A high number of microRNAs in human breast milk are present in microvesicles or exosomes which protect them from rapid degradation by RNases. It has been proposed that microRNAs are involved in cell–cell communication and play an important role in the immune system maturation of the infant." https://lnkd.in/erkHGt5 View in LinkedIn

EXPANDING RANGE OF TAGS. "There are epigenetic marks that cluster around the start points of genes; there are marks that cover long stretches of DNA, and others that affect much shorter regions; there are even epigenetic modifications of RNA." https://www.theguardian.com/science/occams-corner/2014/apr/25/epigenetics-beginners-guide-to-everything View in LinkedIn
