IF UNIVERSITIES ARE AT THE HEART OF TECHNOLOGY CLUSTERS, THEN TECH TRANSFER OFFICES are the gateway for IP to find drivers and investors. AUTM (Association of University Technology Managers) in the US meets at least annually to share the latest licensing templates and thinking, and has created an excellent and efficient level playing field for licensing technology from universities. We need to globalize their findings and efforts to accelerate and modernize the tech transfer process outside the US to generate economic growth and jobs. View in LinkedIn

THE US FOOD CHAIN REGULATION is clearly less than a D(-) grade and consumers should be outraged. The FDA spends inordinate amount of byzantine time regulating drug manufacturing (spme say causing drug shortages), but falls flat on its face with food, and PLEASE let's not talk about tobacco. WORKING FROM HOME DOES NOT FIT ALL ORGANIZATIONS, but in many cultures it is very productive. With teleconferencing the social context of a face-to-face meeting can be retained, and the endless group meetings obviated. IF IT WALKS LIKE A SHEEP, AND TALKS LIKE A SHEEP, IT MIGHT JUST BE ONE. Let's not forget the trendy VC investments in young companies with skateboard CEOs that went so badly south in the last big VC crash. There has been a long history of bad choices and herd behavior in this industry, so a mad investment rush does not necessarily make this real. View in LinkedIn

CAN REPAIRING CELLULAR ARCHITECTURE ONLY BE DONE WITH CELLS? Here stem cells repair heart defects in a dramatic study. Changing bad blood chemistry is a less complex issue of supply and demand of the chemical in question, and has occupied Pharma for many decades. Even this is really hard: think diabetes and glucose regulation. But to repair tissues and 3D structures with drugs seems beyond difficult.
