"FARMED FISH are kept in concentrations never seen in the wild (e.g. 50,000 fish in a 2-acre (8,100 m2) area) with each fish occupying less room than the average bathtub. This can cause several forms of pollution. Packed tightly, fish rub against each other and the sides of their cages, damaging their fins and tails and becoming sickened with various diseases and infections"" " http://lnkd.in/d-UTaTT View in LinkedIn

TEST TUBE MEAT? Oxford University study (2011) "estimated that cultured meat uses far less energy than most other forms, apart from chicken, and some 45 per cent less energy than beef, the most environmentally destructive meat." "They also found that synthetic meat needs 99 per cent less land than livestock, between 82 and 96 per cent less water, and produces between 78 and 95 per cent less greenhouse gas. In terms of relative environmental damage, there was no contest."" " http://lnkd.in/d-KqFJR View in LinkedIn

TEST TUBE MEAT DEBUT. In 2013, the first proof-of-concept for cultured meat was made public with a taste test, with money from Google's Sergey Brin. While many cited the high cost of this single artificial burger, this was sheer nonsense, as commercial production would change the economics significantly. The question is, will this be a serious player in future meat production? " " http://lnkd.in/dk9fVQM View in LinkedIn

AWARD WINNING HUMANE FISH NETS. "Dan Watson devised a system based on a series of escape rings for fish – which can be fitted to a fisherman's trawler net – in response to the problem of overfishing and the controversial and wasteful practice of throwing away healthy and edible fish or other creatures as so-called bycatch." Watson started SafetyNet Technologies to try and commercialize his invention. " " http://lnkd.in/d5Y45pzhttp://www.sntech.co.uk/ View in LinkedIn

FISHING WASTE. "In the past 50 years, the worlds fish catch grew more than fourfoldfrom roughly 20 million tons to 90 million tons. During the same period, the variety of fish species dropped by as much as 50 percent. Ninety percent of large predator fish species such as cod, shark, and bluefin tuna have disappeared. Industrial fishing generates about 25 million tons of unwanted by-catchfish and marine mammals that are dumped overboard, dead or dying." http://lnkd.in/d9N5m4Ehttp://lnkd.in/dVRfrF7 View in LinkedIn

MOST TABLE FISH IS FARMED. "In the last 20 years, the production of fish through aquaculture has grown exponentially, while marine fish catches have leveled off. Unless it’s an extraordinary year for marine fishing, in 2013 the lines will cross, and the majority of the fish we eat will come from aquaculture rather than oceans."" LOOTING THE SEAS."Nearly 50 countries that trade in high-priced Eastern Atlantic Bluefin Tuna agreed Saturday (2013) to transform an archaic paper-based method for tracking fish into a digitalized system that officials say will make it harder for fleets to smuggle plundered bluefin into market."
