HOT TOPIC. Whenever a firestorm of dissent breaks out about a scientific topic, one wise thing to do is to consider whose powerful toes are being stepped upon, particularly industrial toes. Sponsored disinformation attacks are a sadly common modern event. There is a long history of this going back to fluoride, tobacco, nutrition, and in recent years, GMOs.
