FEARLESS THINKING. “Perhaps one can also turn the analogy on its head, and use granular matter physics to explore phenomena that are yet unobserved in real cosmology. An example would be the existence of primordial gravitational waves which in the real universe are still shrouded in mystery.” https://lnkd.in/dusKMKM View in LinkedIn

RESPONSE TO PAPER. “As for reactions, it's really a mixed bag. We've had very positive reactions from a small number of young aficionados of granular matter, who've thought our proposed analogy as `very, very interesting'. On the other hand, senior experts appear to be much less enthusiastic and even skeptical. This isn't surprising, given that in today's world people are concerned about their own niches, and losing even an inch of their domain to a group of novices isn't welcome. The paper isn't published yet, but the fight with reviewers is on, so lets see. With our best wishes, Partha (Majumdar).” View in LinkedIn

SO ENDS this second weekend on a remarkable, fresh and imaginative essay. Physicists today feel free to speculate with untethetered imagination, and force the possibilities. For we live in a universe that is extreme, with many exotic states if matter, and probably dimensions we cannot begin to imagine. It is time to be bold, tap the dreamworld, and push the boundaries of the possible, because -- much of it probably is! https://lnkd.in/dusKMKM View in LinkedIn

LOVELY. “Employees of the Union Oil Company of California reported first in 1938 that turkey vultures would gather at the site of any gas leak. After finding that this was caused by traces of ethanethiol in the gas it was decided to boost the amount of ethanethiol in the gas, to make detections of leaks easier. The threshold for human detection is as low as one part in 2.8 billion parts of air (0.36 parts per billion). https://lnkd.in/dz8iJha View in LinkedIn

SHREDDING. “Because black holes do not preserve baryon number, these black holes can catalyze proton decay. Protons that fall into the black holes could be returned as positrons. The Q effectively two dimensional massless modes provide a large enhancement to this process, both because they are massless and because of they are many.” https://lnkd.in/dX6Fbwx View in LinkedIn
